Compress Image

Compress Image makes photos and graphics smaller so pages load faster and uploads succeed. Use the quality slider, or set a target size like “under 200 KB” and the tool finds the best quality that fits. Compare the before and after sizes for every image.

Limitations to know

  • Compression uses your browser’s encoders; PNG output is lossless, so it shrinks less than JPG or WebP.
  • Photo metadata (EXIF, including GPS location) is removed in the output – usually a privacy benefit.
  • A target size may be impossible for very large images; the tool then reports the smallest it could reach.

Privacy: Compress Image runs entirely in your web browser. Your JPG/PNG/WebP data is not uploaded, stored or shared, and nothing about its contents is sent to analytics.

Frequently asked questions

How do I compress an image without losing too much quality?

Use JPG or WebP at 70–85% quality – most people cannot see the difference, and files are often 50–80% smaller. Reducing very large dimensions with Resize Image also helps a lot.

How do I get a photo under 100 KB or 200 KB?

Enable “Target size”, enter the limit, and the tool searches for the highest quality that stays under it. If needed, it also suggests resizing.

Are my images uploaded?

No. Images are decoded and re-encoded on your device with the browser’s canvas engine.
